After check, Freesat is using Astra 28.2°E
Currently BBC/ITV/Channel 4/Channel 5 all use Ericsson's Red Bee Media for playout and distribution
With BBC News was originally inhouse and also moved to Red Bee Media
if DTT switch off i think a lot broadcasting engineer are at risk
But they just switch to streaming. Production is still there ?
there is a playout system
It is called Presentation
Red Bee and BBC regional has a lots of distribution
unlike streaming can just have different feeds
BBC has regional transmission centre with people working 247 to deliver local content
they have 16 regional edition so even you are watching BBC One/Two it is actually a different channel across the UK
actually used to be 17, Oxford has BBC South Today Oxford Edition
OK you mean BBC Scotland, BBC south channels.
So iPlayer is one of the channels
But iPlayer have VOD concept, not just Live feed
has lots of people workinmg behind it
backend you mean the delivery hub like you said Red Bee Media ? (I just checked Red Bee this company)
So if UK shutdown Digital wireless TV broadcast, the playout company will still there, and they just feed to iPlayer or other new streaming app.
I am watching TV through SkyGo app, and I can bring my iPad or Apple TV to install SkyGO, and SkyGo over Starlink connection when camping.
And I checked 'Freeview Play' App is able to watch all TV channels in UK over internet
Freeview Play is free for charge
it’s just redirect you to TV station own streaming app
not all freeview channels are on it
WB Discovery channels are not on it
TLC for example is on FreeView DTT but not on any streaming
Oh yes, Freeview Play just redirect to the TV station app.
So the only open is freesat or freeview over antenna. But this 2 options dont have UHD channels
I can buy a used 4K apple TV and install SkyGO APP and connect to to a monitor to watch 4K TV channels (over starlink) when camping
Gor me, I am just thinking use SkyGo over Starlink or just use Freesat, both of them a Sat technology. (Starlink is IP, Freesat is TV broadcast)
i remember BBC UHD are not supported on Apple TV 4K
I watch BBC not from iPlayer, I watch BBC from SkyGO app
